Vaastu postulates that most of the hardships the individual faces can be sourced to the design and arrangement of his dwelling or the plot on which it is erected. These hardships can be overcome by fine-tuning the directional placement of various components of a dwelling as well as furniture within it to Vaastu principles

Why is Vaastu shastra called science?

Vaastu Shastra is known as genuine science as it deals with the correct positioning of anything and everything as per Nature's laws. For example, East stands for the Sun, West for Saturn, North for Mercury and South for Mars. The Panchbhutas space, air, fire, water and earth and the Ashtadigpalaks keepers of the eight directions are in perfect coordination with Nature.
Where can we find reference to Vaastu in ancient texts?

Many Puranas such as Skanda, Agni, Matsya, Garuda, Narada, Vayu, Bramhananda and Linga deal with the Vaastu Shastra extensively.

How important is the Compass in Vaastu?

Almost all of the solutions that Vaastu provides are based on the directional placement of the dwelling or the furniture within it. Hence, the first and basic input is finding the correct direction. In Vaastu, all professionals entirely rely on the magnetic compass for ascertaining the directions. The magnetic compass is believed to have been invented by the Chinese. It is an instrument for determining directions by means of a freely rotating magnetized needle that always indicates magnetic North. The magnetic compass helps in determining the direction and suitability of a site as per Vaastu principles.

However, it is important to note that ascertaining directions by movements of the Sun and stars will not give incorrect results.

What is the significance of Vaastu in the modern context?

The science of Vaastu has been assuming enormous importance in the present times. Many scholars and professionals have been writing about this ancient science, quoting from classics and their present-day experiences backed by empirical data.

In this era of computer technology and industrial boost, the application of Vaastu to different structures and proper furniture arrangement (including computer table and chair), have produced fabulous results. Under the British period, great structures based on Vaastu principles in India, were destroyed.

Now, Vaastu tenets are being followed not only in India but the US, Canada, UK, Middle East, Africa and other countries. I have clients in these countries who have reaped immense benefits by observing Vaastu tenets in their homes, hospitals, industries, offices etc.

Is there a guarantee that I will become successful if my house/factory is constructed 100% as per Vaastu?

No. The answer is that Vaastu cannot change your fortune. Moreover, success is a result of a combination of many things. Perhaps, Vaastu can make it easier; without Vaastu, you might have to work much harder than necessary to be able to achieve success. It is often said, Vaastu makes sweet things sweeter and bitter things less bitter.

When is the correct time to go for Vaastu consultation?

The best time to go for Vaastu consultation is when you are selecting the plot and the design of the house/ office / factory has not been finalized. Also remember that Vaastu is an ongoing process; you must consult Vaastu before any expansion of any structure, acquiring adjoining plot, installing new machinery in factory or even mergers and acquisitions.

As a Vaastu professional, how do you view the role of an architect, civil engineer and an interior designer?

An architect makes the plan of a structure, the civil engineer brings the structure into reality, and the interior designer provides the beauty aspect to the structure. The Vaastu professional gives life to the structure.
